Alzheimer Athens teaser
This touching 2D animation, launched for World Alzheimer’s Month in September 2019, raises awareness and challenges dementia stigma through a bittersweet lens. The aesthetic captures a nostalgic, hand-drawn warmth, using soft, muted tones of beige, blue, and red to evoke intimacy and tenderness.
Old Brain and Young Brain, depicted with simple, rounded shapes and expressive features, share father-son moments that feel both timeless and fragile. The visuals transition seamlessly from a cozy living room—where a gramophone glows with golden light—to a vibrant amusement park filled with whimsical details like a spinning Ferris wheel and a cotton candy van. As memories fade, the aesthetic shifts to a darker, surreal tone: colors desaturate, edges blur, and the environment distorts into a haunting, dreamlike space with a fallen Ferris wheel floating in a shadowy lake.
The director’s cut version enhances this emotional journey with delicate textures and fluid animations, emphasizing the contrast between joy and loss. Included are some early character designs that weren’t used.
